Cambridge schools went head to head earlier this week as the Southwood and Preston girls’ soccer teams played each other on Monday afternoon at Woodside.
Both teams were incredibly well matched, and neither had an easy time getting a goal in. Preston forwards made plenty of shots on Southwood’s net, but the Sabers’ goalie, Emily Breitkopf, was a force to be reckoned with.
While Breitkopf guarded the Southwood net, the Preston Panthers kept the ball in the Southwood end for much of the second half, landing them plenty of shots on net and a few rebounds off the goalposts, one of which landed the Panthers their winning goal by top rookie Holly McKenzie.
An intense game filled with close saves and a final score of 1-0 for the Preston Girls.
The boys’ soccer teams from Southwood and Preston had a different end result in their game on Tuesday afternoon. The final score was 2-0 for Southwood with goals scored by Tyler Wallace and Brandon Charron.
Southwood girls will play Forest Heights and Preston will take on Huron Heights next Tuesday, April 26th, both games at Woodside park at 3:45pm. Full sports schedules available at wcssaa.ca. For regular updates and results follow @wcssaaathleticson twitter.
