This past Wednesday, April 6th was the 2016 annual WCSSAA all-star basketball game, this year held at WCI. The girls’ started out the night at 6:30pm followed by the boys at 8pm.
It was a night of awards as well basketball. Nina Farkic from the Cameron Heights girls’ basketball team won the Julie Devenny award for girls’ basketball, naming her Most Valuable Player.
Simon Petrov from Sir John A. MacDonald was named the boys’ basketball MVP and awarded the Mike Moser award. A full article and interview with Simon Petrov by Mark Bryson can be found on The Record website.
Aside from the annual tradition of awards, a new tradition began as it was decided that the first ever WCSSAA dunk competition would be held during the halftime of the boys’ all-star game.
Nedim Hodzic from Sir John A. MacDonald, Cham Ujullu from Eastwood, and Rakesh Arjun from Forest Heights were chosen to compete in the dunk competition, and Nedim Hodzic became the dunk competition’s first champion.
A great night overall for athletes and coaches with many more to come in the future.
